The City of Kingston is thrilled to announce that renowned Canadian dance artist and choreographer Peggy Baker will be in residence at the Tett Centre August 22nd through 27th.  While in residence, Peggy will be offering a number of FREE public events for all ages and abilities.  Join us for any and all of these wonderful sessions that explore the beauty and joy of movement!

Last August, Kingstonians were honoured to have Canadian dance icon Peggy Baker begin a 3-year annual dance residency at the Tett Centre of Creativity and Learning.  During her 2015 residency, Peggy worked with members of our region to rehearse and perform move, a contemporary dance piece, in the Tett Centre’s Malting Tower.  Attended by more than 150 people, move was a breathtaking, poignant and extraordinary experience for both performers and audience.  Participants in last year’s res

Sheep Dog Trials and the Kingston Handloom Weavers and SpinnersThe 29th Sheep Dog Trials will be held at Grass Creek Park this August 5-7, 2016 and the Kingston Handloom Weavers and Spinners will be there.  Friday through Sunday guild members take turns providing interactive demonstrations of spinning and weaving, explaining the processes involved in turning a variety of fibres into useable yarn for a wide array of creations.

Ottawa is the capital of Canada – now.  But it has not always been that way.  In 1841, the Act of Union officially united the colonies of Upper and Lower Canada to form the Province of Canada, with Kingston as its capital city.  The capital was moved to Montreal in 1844 and from there to Toronto and then Quebec City until finally being established in Ottawa in 1866.

A Stitch in Time: the Tett through the yearsVisit the Tett this April for an original vison of Kingston history. The Kingston Fibre Artists created a challenge for themselves, to depict the history of the Tett Centre in stitch and fibre as part of their newest show – A Stitch in Time – at the Tett’s Community Gallery, which opens Saturday April 2nd. 

The Kingston Arts Council and the National Aboriginal Day Committee have teamed up to present Illuminations, an intergenerational arts workshop for participants 6 years old and up. Inspired by the lyrics of Buffy Sainte-Marie, the workshops will be led by JP Longboat, Mohawk, Turtle Clan, and will be fully accessible to a wide range of abilities - no previous art experience is required!There are two chances to participate!Saturday, March 1910:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. OR 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

January 2015, we moved into the newly renovated Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning and our first year has been full of wonderful events, workshops, performances, new friends and now a bustling cafe.
