Rock On With the Lapidary & Mineral Club

What on earth is lapidary you say?  Lapidary refers to the cutting and polishing of stone. After purchasing a yearly membership ( $20 single and $25 family ), you can come to the club on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening and one of our generous volunteers will show you how to cut and polish stones. There are various open shop times scheduled at the club, where you can then work away on your own projects. Open shop time is $3 per hour. During the spring, summer and fall you can join the club on one of its many rock hunting trips and mine for your own semi precious stones.

We offer so much more than rock cutting though. What will you do with all those pretty stones you have cut?  The basic silver smithing course is another wonderful offering of our talented volunteers. You will learn to cut and polish metal, solder, set stones and much more. Other courses we offer include: lost wax casting, precious metal clay, polymer clay, enamelling, etching, riveting, chaining, spinner rings, and more advanced silver smithing. Courses are very reasonably priced.

We also have a set program for children 8 to 12.

Finally, what do our members do with all the jewellery they create?  Please join us for our first annual show and sale, Metal Rocks, on November 25 and 26. You will find us in the Tett activity room.
