The Tett Partners With The Boys & Girls Club of Kingston Celebrating Canada's 150th

January 24, 2017

The Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning has been at the forefront of providing enriching arts experiences for the Kingston community since it opened its doors in 2015. The Tett is excited to be partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston, supported by the Ontario150 Partnership Grant to celebrate Canada’s 150th in a very creative way.

The program, titled Kaboom! Arts After School “started as a pilot in the spring of 2016 and was so successful and well attended, we hoped to extend the program and offer it to even more youth across the city.” explains Tett Community Engagement Coordinator, Shannon Brown. “With this incredible grant we now have that ability!”

The program, designed for youth ages 13-18, will offer a facilitated and youth led platform to explore arts at the Tett, culminating in an exposition in the late fall of 2017, thereby marking Kingston’s part in Canada’s 150th.  This partnership puts the Boys and Girls Club together with the Tett, a perfect combination.

According to Devin Reynolds, B&G Club Youth Manager "We are so fortunate to have key community partners to help us to facilitate unique programs for our youth. Each year we see the demand for the arts grow. This program helps so many of our youth with self-expression and confidence.  We are looking forward to another exciting year with the Tett Centre Team."

“Kaboom! will feature special projects with Tett organizations and community artists, such as photography and drumming with our Creativity Studio artists.” says Shannon Brown. “The environment is one geared towards artistic innovation and discovery. We can’t wait to see what the youth create.”

Youth interested in taking part in this new initiative should contact The Boys and Girls Club of Kingston at devin@bgckingston.ca. A call out for the Kaboom!
