Find Your Space, Opportunities for Professional Artists at The Tett

Creativity Studio Artwork

The Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning has a number of exciting opportunities for Professional Artists including gallery and studio space to rent.

Space to Create

Currently there is one studio for rent in the Creativity Studios. This large 14’ x 17’ corner spot looks directly onto Lake Ontario with 12’ ceilings and exposed limestone walls.  This inspiring space will house one or two (sharing) arts professionals starting October 1st. Applications are due August 30th, 2015.

The Studios have been a hot bed of activity since the Tett officially opened in January. Creativity studio artists have taken part in the Whole Shebang: the Tett Grand opening, drop in workshops in the common area, and the Tett Arts Expo. According to artist Katharine Vingoe Cram, "I’ve enjoyed meeting new people in the community, talking about my work to visitors and love the feeling of being a part of a busy 'hive.'"

The studios are home to printmakers, a watercolour artist, a photographer, an illustrator and more. The space is not limited to visual arts though, so any arts discipline, writer, dancer and musician, should apply.

Visitors to INTERACT The KAC Juried Art Salon June 2015

Space to Exhibit

The Tett Community Gallery is filling up, but still has room for exhibitions starting December 2015 and into 2016. This multipurpose gallery space was home to The Kingston Arts Council Juried Art Salon, INTERACT, during June and July this year. According to Greg Tilson, Artistic Diector of the KAC, “the Salon raised the profile of our exhibition while contributing considerably to audience development".

500-1500 sq feet are available for rent at very reasonable prices from a one week to four week stretch. This professional gallery also rents an adjoining creation space; the Activity Room, for use by arts educators, and community groups for camps, workshops, meetings or openings. Starting at $20/hr this is one of Kingston’s most reasonably priced creativity spaces. Contact rentals@tettcentre.org for more information on renting space at The Tett.

Space to Grow

Local artists are being offered the opportunity to propose works to hang in the common spaces of the Tett. According to Board Member Paul Vernon, “A pilot exhibition is currently displayed in the main stairwell, showcasing works by final year Queen's BFA students. These students have benefitted from this exposure to Tett visitors, and we have been thrilled with the response to these works. A call to local artists can be found here and we look forward to receiving many quality applications for this juried opportunity.” Applications are due August 28th at 5 PM.

“Being an artist in the Tett Creativity Studios is like being at a moving point in a mandala. Surrounded by other creative artists, each with her or his own magic, being together makes the totality far greater than just a combination of individuals. In one day I can be working with a ballerina, an actor or a musician in a collaborative project. This week, I've set up a session for photographers to work with musician Julia Finnegan, who will be playing her guitar and singing, with three ballerinas performing around her. Photographers will have an opportunity to document this. Being at the Tett made the coordination of this kind of arrangement effortless.”
