Saturday, April 1, 9AM–4:30PM in the Activity Room

This workshop, facilitated by Creativity Studio Artist Bethany Garner, will focus on Japanese BORO Art. Bethany will show participants how to use the fabrics they have and work with the basics of collage art to create their own designs. As Beth says, there is nothing better than a day spent playing with small scraps of fabric, threads and cloth alongside to friends to create beautiful art.  

This class will bring you closer to sharing a connection with the art of Japanese BORO art and perhaps start you on a journey with bits and pieces that will inspire all new work. Join Beth for a full day with some samples from her handy work – and you will only need some cloth, scissors, needle and thread. Oh, and don’t forget, you will need a willingness to try a new technique that reminds you of years of work done by those around the other side of our world that walked before us.

This workshop is open to students 18+ years and older. All levels of ability (beginner, intermediate and advanced students) are welcome to come.

About the Artist

A Creativity Studio Artist at the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning, Beth travels and teaches for Quilt Guilds, shops and women's groups by invitation. She is the Owner and Managing Coordinator for the FIBREWORKS KINGSTON Weekend Workshops Series which has brought the very best of the best Fibre Arts Educators to Canada since 1979.

A seasoned contemporary artist, Beth is also a traditional quilter, Restoration Specialist, Quilt Conservator, and is a recently retired Professor of Textile Design at St. Lawrence College, Kingston. She has inspired her students to take chances, try new things, and explore their favourite techniques in the classroom and at home.
