Peppered with interesting historical facts and stories, this is an introduction to the world of lettering and all it’s applications. Following this workshop you will undoubtedly look twice at the way the written word is presented to you and be better able to choose and modify fonts for your specific needs.
The first half of the class offers a broad look at the anatomy and history of Roman, San Serif, Blackletter, and Script font families. You will learn how certain styles of letter came to look the way they do, and how they have been continually molded to communicate their message. This will be followed by a practical application exercise where participants can explore the first steps of creating a custom font.
An info packet and basic supplies will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own sketchbook, writing utensils, and any fonts you are curious about.
