Inspiration: A Fibre Arts Retreat with Bethany Garner - SOLD OUT!

 

Enjoy five days of fibre artmaking workshops from July 25th to 29th at the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning.

 

Instructor Bethany Garner will teach students a variety of techniques on fabric, including the following:

 

Monday:      Flat Dyeing Cloth

Tuesday:     Mark Making & Printing

Wednesday: Natural Dyes, rust dyeing and eco-printing

Thursday:    Use of embellishing machine sewing

Friday:        Create an art quilt

 

By the end of the retreat, each student will have created a finished piece of artwork that will incorporate the skills learned during the retreat.

 

A supplies list will be emailed to registered students once their registration have been confirmed. The use of a needle and thread and, if possible, sewing machines that you will bring to class are, while not required, very helpful as starting points for success.

 

When? From Monday, July 25– 29, 2022. 9:30am to 5pm each day.

 

Where? The Activity Room and the Tett Gallery (Rooms 108/109 on the 1st floor)

 

Open to attendees ages 18+ and older. All levels of ability are welcome.

Covid-19 protocols within the workshop spaces: The instructor has indicated that appropriate individual student table spacing for both students and the instructor will be honoured. Masks are encouraged in small group settings.

 


 

About the Art Instructor: Bethany Garner has been designing and making quilts since 1976. She is a seasoned contemporary artist, traditional quilter, restoration specialist, quilt conservator, and is a retired professor of textile design at St. Lawrence College, Kingston. Her artwork has been exhibited across Canada and internationally. She has inspired her students to take chances, try new things, and explore their favourite techniques in the classroom and at home. Bethany is a resident Creativity Studio artist at the Tett Centre for Creativity & Learning.
