Workshop participants will learn the basics of felting a 2D landscape image using wool roving and a felting needle. After a brief overview of the history of felting as an art form, participants will learn how to layer and felt wool roving to achieve painterly effects. Since it’s finally summer, we will be focusing on water and waves in our landscapes!

Tiina Kukkonen is a visual artist, arts educator, and researcher. Formally trained in painting and drawing, Tiina dabbles in many different media but focuses primarily on needle felting. Her approach to felting resembles painting in that colours are layered to achieve different visual effects. Tiina often gives workshops in the community to share her love of felt and other art forms. She holds a Ph.D. in Education from Queen’s University, where she also teaches visual arts education to aspiring teachers.
