The Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning (TCCL) is a charitable arts organization that operates the city-owned J.K. Tett heritage building on Kingston’s waterfront. Together with our tenant arts organizations and artists, and our neighbour Queen’s University’s Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, we are a thriving creative hub.
The Tett Centre is a treasured incubator for Kingston’s artistic talent, and a place where diverse groups of all ages and abilities gather to create, perform, learn, and inspire one another – seeding the skills for life-long learning, while offering the city’s leading cultural groups the affordable spaces on which they rely.
The Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning (TCCL) is at a pivotal point in our history – with our second Strategic Plan launching in 2023, and new leadership, we have the opportunity to push the TCCL to the next level. Over the past eight years, the TCCL has built an inspiring foundation as a site of creation, presentation, and participation in the arts. The TCCL nurtures the livelihoods and professional growth of artists and their organizations, while fostering collaboration through innovative programs and creative engagement opportunities.
As we enter this next phase in the TCCL’s history, we look forward to growing our impact in Kingston’s arts sector and developing exciting opportunities to support our community in meaningful ways. With these goals in mind, we will be launching our inaugural Tett Residency program in 2023!
The Tett Residency program seeks to fill a gap in Kingston’s arts sector by establishing a unique residency opportunity. This program will increase access to studio space and career development opportunities for emerging artists by awarding four three-month artist residencies per year. Artists-in-residence may include emerging visual, performance, and literary artists; curators; photographers and videographers. This program will build exciting opportunities for professional growth and foster connections across communities in Kingston and beyond.
While working to invigorate our organization and better support artists and cultural workers, the Tett faces continuing financial pressures brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as rapidly rising inflation. In this next stage in the Tett’s history, we seek to further develop our role as a creative hub for artists of all kinds. Programs like the Tett Residency will increase our impact as a site for creative incubation and artist development. As a registered charity, the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning relies on support through donations, sponsorships, grants, program fees, and revenue from space rentals to fund operations and community-focused initiatives. Your donation will sustain the Tett and help us continue to develop exciting new programs to advance Kingston’s arts sector.
