Jo Monea will be your guide, giving you cues to help spark inspiration, and helping you not take any of it too seriously. Bring a water bottle, and maybe a friend too.

Jo Monea (they/them) trained as a dancer for 14 years; they started with ballet at age 4. Throughout their dance training at 5678 Dance Studio, here in Kingston, they were taught ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, hip hop, contemporary, lyrical, and improv dance. Their years at the studio provided them the opportunity to compete in dance competitions, take dance exams, and perform in the studio’s annual year end recital and winter Nutcracker performance. In the fall of 2018, Jo and a couple of fellow dancers at 5678 led a project with Juvenis called Verity. It was a sequence of dance numbers which centralized around the themes that would no longer be discussed in health classes, since the 2015 sex ed curriculum was repealed and that of 1998 was reinstated. These themes include consent, cyber bullying and online safety, and LGBTQ+ representation. Jo has also performed in KCVI’s Chicago as a merry murderess, and in KCVI’s Grease as Rizzo. They enjoy sharing their love of dance and movement, and hope to spark that same inspiration in those around them.

The Juvenis Festival is a project of Blue Canoe Theatrical that began in 2016. Juvenis is Kingston's Youth Arts Festival, one of only two youth arts festivals in all of Canada! Juvenis showcases the talented #ygkyouth ages 30 and under. This 11-day festival gives young people an opportunity to act, sing, dance, perform, and showcase their artistic talents, as well as take free workshops and masterclasses to build on their interests and skills in the arts. http://www.juvenisfestival.ca/
