TCCL Launches a New Artist Residency Program

TCCL Launches a New Artist Residency Program to Support Emerging Artists

The Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning (TCCL) is excited to launch its inaugural Artist Residency Program, TETT ARTIST RESIDENCY. This program offers an awarded three-month studio space for emerging artists in Katarokwi/Kingston and the surrounding area, providing an opportunity for creative incubation at our thriving and multifaceted community arts centre. Each year, the program accommodates four artists consecutively, offering exclusive studio access to one artist at a time. The Tett Artist Residency is open to emerging artists across various disciplines, including visual arts, performing arts, literary arts, photography, time-based media, curation, digital art, and more.

"We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Tett Artist Residency program," says Brianne Franklin, TCCL Director. "This program is an exciting next step for our organization, creating accessible options for artists to build their arts practice and engage with the community. Our goal is to offer a supportive and dynamic space for emerging artists to grow and create in our lively community arts hub."

Studio 214B, situated within the Creativity Studios at the Tett Centre will serve as the venue for quarterly residencies. The TCCL seeks applications for a production-based residency, where participating artists will have dedicated time and space to develop or complete a project or body of work during the residency period. In addition, the artists are expected to engage with the community by participating in six hours of community engagement activities. These activities can encompass a range of options, including performances, artist talks, workshops, or other initiatives proposed by the artists themselves. Lastly, the Artists-in-Residence will have the opportunity to present their artistic achievements in an annual residency showcase, held in collaboration with the TCCL.

Successful applicants will receive the following:

  1. Exclusive, cost-free use of Studio 214B at the Tett Centre for three months with unlimited building access, providing a dedicated space to hone their work;
  2. Creative and professional development opportunities, including program facilitation experience, working alongside the Tett staff and the broader artistic community;
  3. Mentorship from accomplished Creativity Studio Artists, offering guidance and support in the artist's creative journey;
  4. Opportunity to showcase their work in an annual residency exhibition alongside fellow Artists-in-Residence;
  5. Promotional support from the TCCL for future exhibitions or events that result from the residency, where possible.

The Tett Artist Residency program aims to invigorate the Tett Centre as a creative hub, foster community connections, and support the growth of emerging artists. As a production-based residency, it offers creative incubation, professional development opportunities, and dedicated time and space for emerging artists to develop or complete their projects.

Applications for the Tett Artist Residency will be open on August 14. Interested artists are encouraged to visit the TCCL website for more details and submission guidelines when the application opens. The application deadline is September 22, and successful applicants will be notified by November 1.
