Learn to create your own rib baskets using commercial reed or a mix of natural and commercial materials. These baskets are built around a series of hoops and ribs, which determine their final shape. Many rib baskets are named for their shape or function—examples include a melon-shaped basket and a potato basket with handle.
During the workshop, participants will complete two baskets using natural materials. A materials fee of $10–$20 (depending on materials used) is payable to the instructor on the day of the workshop.

About
Barb Heins began making baskets as a child, learning alongside her mother on the dock at their cottage. Since then, she has continued to study and refine her craft through courses and hands-on work with materials such as birch and cedar bark, willow, grapevine, and commercial reed. Most of her baskets are functional, blending traditional techniques with practical design.
