Kick off the holiday season with a hands-on paper lantern workshop inspired by Día de las Velitas, the Colombian tradition where families fill their streets, windows and doorsteps with candles and lanterns to welcome the holidays. Hosted by Draw by Night Kingston, a community of social art nights for anyone who wants to make something with others, and led by Maria, who grew up celebrating Velitas in Colombia, participants will learn a bit about the tradition and make their own stained-glass-style paper lantern to take home, with Colombian snacks to enjoy while they work. All materials are provided, including an LED tealight, and no experience is needed. The workshop is also a fundraiser: all ticket proceeds go to a Colombian family rebuilding their home after the August 10 earthquake.
