TCCL Announces Inaugural TETT ARTIST RESIDENCY Recipients

Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning Announces Inaugural TETT ARTIST RESIDENCY Recipients

The Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning (TCCL) is thrilled to announce the selected artists for its inaugural Artist Residency Program, TETT ARTIST RESIDENCY. Designed to nurture emerging artists in Katarokwi/Kingston, this three-month residency offers a unique opportunity for creative incubation within our vibrant community arts centre.

The following four outstanding artists have been chosen for the inaugural Tett Artist Residency in 2024:

  • Q1: Baiqing (Audrey) Chen
    • Discipline: Digital Media, Exhibition Curation, Video Editing, Production
    • Baiqing specializes in multimedia storytelling, digital media, and exhibition curation, aiming to showcase the legacy of Jinsha Culture through the fusion of digital media and traditional live performance.
  • Q2: Meenakashi Ghadial
    • Discipline: Visual Arts
    • Meenakashi focuses on representational oil paintings on metal that explore themes of marriage, love, intimacy, and queerness through the use of current documentation as well as archival family material.
  • Q3: Sheldon Traviss
    • Discipline: Drawing, Sculpture, Indigenous Culinary Tradition
    • Specializing in graphite and digital drawing, ceramic and wood sculpture, Traviss focuses on cultural revitalization through the creation and use of traditional Haudenosaunee cooking vessels and pottery. 
  • Q4: Sophia Fabiilli
    • Discipline: Playwriting, Screenwriting, Education
    • Sophia is a writer whose portfolio includes award-winning works such as The Philanderess and How to Stand Up. Her upcoming project, Why It’s Impossible to Raise a Girl, is set to premiere in Kingston in September 2024.

The Tett Artist Residency, accommodating one artist at a time, provides each recipient with exclusive studio access, fostering an environment conducive to the exploration of various artistic disciplines, including visual arts, literary arts, photography, time-based media, curation, digital art, and more.

“We are thrilled to welcome Meenakashi Ghadial, Sheldon Traviss, Sophia Fabiilli, and Baiqing Chen as the first artists for our inaugural residency program," said Brianne Franklin, TCCL Director. "Their diverse talents and creative visions align perfectly with the ethos of the Tett Artist Residency, and we are eager to witness the artistic journey and growth that will unfold during their time here.”

The Tett Artist Residency is a testament to the TCCL's commitment to fostering a dynamic arts community, providing emerging artists with the support and space needed to thrive.
