 (ages 9-12 minimum 3 years’ previous dance training in jazz, ballet or   contemporary)

              Seniors -2:30-4:00pm-(ages 13 to adult, intermediate /advanced level)

Cassel began tap dancing at nine years of age, however, it wasn’t until age seventeen that the dancing bug really bit. He was one of students in the first class of the performing arts program at Cawthra Park Secondary School and went on to study in the music theatre program at Sheridan College. His first professional job in his second year was as a lead dancer in Canada’s Wonderland’s The Best of Broadway.

From there Cassel went to to dance scholarships in Toronto at Studio 106 (George Randolph) and Steps 74 in New York City. Returning to Canada, Cassel danced with Judith Marcuse’s Repertory Dance Company of Canada, Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal and The National Tap Dance Company of Canada.

Seeking something more Cassel moved into musical theatre dancing and singing in shows such as A Chorus Line, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Sophisticated Ladies, Crazy for You, Fosse, Kiss Me Kate at the Stratford Festival and On the Town and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes at the Shaw Festival. He acted in dramatic productions such as Of Mice and Men, The Servant of Two Masters and The Virgin Trial earning a Dora Award Nomination for his performance in the Canadian Stage production of Angels in America Parts 1 & 2.

Currently Cassel is focused on the one-person show, Josiah Henson: From Slave to Saviour on which he collaborated with Kingston writer/director Charles Robertson. It has been a tremendous year of artistic and personal growth experienced since relocating to Kingston and he is grateful for the opportunity to share these blessings with students in the musical theatre workshop at The Kingston School of Dance.
