Virtual reality provides immersive storytelling and gaming opportunities, and is a new medium for creativity and self-expression. VR has become increasingly accessible through tools like WebVR, where users can develop, experience, and share VR projects in their browser. ThreeJS is a JavaScript library and API (Application Programming Interface) for developing WebVR. Because it is cross-platform, we can experience ThreeJS projects using anything from an Oculus Rift, to the browser on a desktop computer.

What will you learn at this workshop?

In this workshop, we’ll learn the basics of JavaScript while using the console, including concepts like variables and functions. We’ll discuss the difference between JavaScript and ThreeJS, and create a 3D model together. This includes adding objects, animating our project, and creating controls that allow us to navigate around our 3D space.

Learners will leave with a better understanding of programming fundamentals, and will leave with a WebVR project to share with family and friends - plus more resources to continue to developing ThreeJS projects from home!
