KAC in Conversation: Creative Placemaking Workshop

Saturday, March 4, 2017 - 1:00pm to 4:00pm
The Malting Tower
Kingston Arts Council

On Saturday 4 March, we are pleased to welcome back Crazy Dames for a creative, fun and interactive workshop that explores how our community can contribute to improving city spaces in creative ways.

Participants will have the opportunity to hear Jennie Suddick and Sara Udow introduce the role of arts in city building, followed by a break-out session that will focus on reimagining space. Hint: Sara and Jennie will be discussing a specific space in the form of a vacant building that neighbours the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning and the Isabel Bader Centre for Performing Arts. Weather-permitting, parts of the workshop will involve walking around the Tett neighbourhood.

This workshop hopes to bring together artists, urban planners, cultural producers, City of Kingston staff and Council members, students, entrepreneurs, and creatives to engage in this discussion and cross-sector collaboration.

Registration required.

About Crazy Dames:

Jennie Suddick is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Toronto. She is currently an Assistant Professor and the Associate Chair, Contemporary Drawing and Print Media at OCAD University. Her practice underscores personal bonds to objects, images, ideas and places that are shared and repeated, acknowledging the imprint these entities leave on individuals (and vice-versa).

Sara Udow is an urban, community and cultural planner who is passionate about engaging people in city building. Through her work as an urban planner, Sara designs and facilitates participatory workshops with a diversity of stakeholders to collaboratively identify priorities in their communities.

This program is funded by the Ontario Arts Council.
